A bag in Spades is an extra trick your team wins beyond its combined bid. Each bag, also called an overtrick or sandbag, usually adds 1 point to the score.

Example

If your team bids 6 tricks and wins 8 tricks:

  • The bid earns 60 points
  • The 2 extra tricks count as 2 bags
  • The team scores 62 points in total

The common Spades rule applies a 100-point penalty when a team collects 10 bags. House rules may change both the penalty and the number of bags required.

A bag is one trick won above your team's bid.
